Task blocking
Mark one task as blocked by another, see the Blocked badge, and keep parent links in the same Relationships section.
A task can wait on another task. The Relationships section in the ticket sidebar holds the parent plus those blocking links. Blocking is a separate graph from parent and child. A task can have many blockers and can block many other tasks. A task cannot block itself, and a loop of blockers is rejected.
The Blocked badge stays on while any blocker is still New, In progress, Feedback, or Backlog. It clears when every blocker is Resolved or Closed. Those links stay in Relationships. The heading switches from Blocked by to Was blocked by, and the lock is no longer orange.
Where you see it
Open a ticket. Relationships sits in the sidebar below Summary. Empty groups stay hidden. If nothing is linked yet, the block still shows None yet so you can add from the menu.
- Parent is the same parent/child link as before. Parent and child still have to live in the same project.
- Blocked by lists tasks that block this one. Those tasks can live in any project in the workspace. After every blocker is Resolved or Closed, the heading reads Was blocked by. The rows stay so you can see the history.
- Is blocking lists tasks that this one blocks.
The header ellipsis menu lets you set or change the parent, add a blocker, or add a task this one should block. Each row has its own menu to unlink. Unlink only removes the relationship. It does not delete the other task.
The Blocked badge appears on the ticket header, in the task list title, on kanban cards, and on subtask rows. Subtasks still sit under the description.
Filters
On the task list and kanban filter strip you can filter by:
- Blocked (yes or no, based on open blockers)
- Blocked by (specific tasks)
- Is blocking (specific tasks)
What stays the same
You can still change status and close a blocked task. Duplicate copies the task without blocking links. Deleting a task removes blocking links in both directions.
